Bike Walk Twin Cities
Safe Routes to School Project Ideas
City of Minneapolis Public Works Department
The City of Minneapolis Public Works Department and Minneapolis Public Schools are currently seeking ideas from the community for Safe Routes to School projects.
Ideas are being sought in advance of a grant deadline from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which runs the
Safe Routes to School Program
. This program provides funding to local communities to make improvements to the routes children use to walk and bike to school. Furthermore, the program seeks to make biking and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.
The deadline for submittal is January 7, 2013. Questions may be directed to Shaun Murphy, Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator at Minneapolis Public Works, 612.333.2450; or Julie Danzl, Healthy Kids Focused Students Program Coordinator at Minneapolis Public Schools, Julie.Danzl@mpls.k12.mn.us.
